Education:
Graduated from Vilnius 7th Secondary School in 1954
1954-1958: Theatre Faculty of Lithuanian State Conservatoire, studies of drama acting.
1958-1963: A. Lunacharsky State Institute of the Theatre Art, studies of drama theatre directing.
Work:
In 1962, while still being a graduate of the Institute, directed his first play in Marijampolė (former Kapsukas) Drama Theatre, “Grain of Rice” (“Ryžio grūdas“) by. A.Nicolaj. Later it was moved to Klaipėda Drama Theatre where it was performed successfully for a long time.
In 1963 appointed the Senior Director of Klaipėda Drama Theatre and stayed in this position for 35 years. –

In almost 50 years Povilas Gaidys directed over 80 plays. He also directed in Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre, Šiauliai Drama Theatre, National Youth Theatre, Saint Petersburg, Chicago’s Lithuanians Theatre in the United States of America, created many memorable roles in cinema and television. In 2002 performed his first big role on stage.

Other activity:
Since 1971 Povilas Gaidys has been teaching the basics of directing in the former Klaipėda faculties of Lithuanian State Conservatoire, now the Faculty of Arts of Klaipėda Univeristy, and is the associate professor of this institution of higher education. He has prepared three generations of theatre actors.
